Front Page News

by Shelia Ford

Therapy dog Molly and board member Margaret Pape graced the front page of the Norman Transcript on September 29.  The newspaper did an article covering our therapy dog group and their visit to Norman Regional Hospital.  The article was picked up by the Associated Press (AP) and was on the www.newsok.com site.  We will be looking for it in other papers around the state.

Therapy Dog Group Meets

A New Leash On Life, Inc. is organizing several therapy dog visits each week.  Some of the dogs are working with physical therapists at Norman Hospital and some are visiting nursing homes, retirement homes and assisted living facilities in the Norman area.

Puppy Outing a Success

Puppy Raisers and their 'dogs in training' met for a wonderful morning of fun at Pat's country estate in September.  They had an introduction to agility session, free time to roam the acres and acres of land, and a delicious pot-luck lunch.  Puppy Coordinator, Gill Barnett, said it was great to see so many of the puppies attend the outing.  A New Leash On Life, Inc. Director, Barbara Lewis, said she wanted to find a way to thank the families for opening their homes to these future assistance dogs.

Yellow Rose Theatre Goes to the Dogs!

A fun night out was had by volunteers and their 'dogs in training' at the Yellow Rose Theatre in Moore.  The older puppy outing was held in September and organized by puppy coordinator Gill Barnett.  Volunteers attending included:

Barbara Lewis and puppy Boyd

Lyn and Chuck McClure and puppy Maxie

Gill Barnett and puppy Noble

Michelle Traw and puppy Maybelle

A New Leash On Life, Inc. goes Hollywood

by Gina Stanley

On a gorgeous autumn day, puppies in training and working Assistance Dogs joined forces with clients and volunteers to make a film that will highlight work A New Leash on Life is doing here in Oklahoma.

Pat Becker, friend of ANLOL and radio personality for KTOK, organized the shoot and provided her home as the location. In addition to writing the script, she also provided the professional video production company.

The primary purpose of the DVD is to provide a tool for volunteers and staff members as they talk to area corporations about how they can become involved with ANLOL. Using a video presentation, speakers will be able to relay the wonderful story of ANLOL and viewers will be able to visually connect with the important work being done. The DVD may also be used to create short PSA’s that could be used by television stations around the state.

Now that shooting is complete, Pat hopes to have the DVD completed within the next few weeks. Watch the website for news of a premiere party!
